Many of stuff cooking in the Ron pot: Here we go...
Friday June/04
It was an incredibly intense and cold winter. Forcing us little
Canadians into
hybernation and in all honesty so much winter blah. Ironically
however such a
environmental and social state is the catalyst for the latest
and creatives.
Since February, production for the Next cd recording begun. Some
of you may
know, but others not that the recording of an album is also a
journey in
itself. I've had numerous debates and a personal dilemma in deciding
which
direction to take this recording. For example do you do a live
album? Do you
take the time to develop a hole new journey by adding textures,
and
experimenting with arrangements, instruments, melodies, dynamics
and more in a
more time intensive studio sessions.? As well as this, when one
thinks of
production where do you go? Do you make it a country album filled
with
acoustic instruments, or do you go with a electronic modern approach,
or do
you spend over 10,000 grand for a grandeous sounding album? or
do you approach
with the low fie cheaper but moment in time recording? Such a
debate non? With
that said, and a the deep decision to spend the last few months
honing me
"chops" rather than biz stuff, its been intense. The
music is its' own thing,
constantly evolving, and really interacting in so many genres
and states it is
fair to call it "global" in it's true sense. But then
again, would any record
store file this music under "global or world"? Who
really knows what it is,
and that is it's true nature to redefine. Why not have an album
with a 70's
track, followed by a jungle track, followed by an organic track,
so long as
the root of all of them come from the same place, you recognize
the artist as
is, for the unique vocal or songwriting, rather than making a
one out of many
creative and intermingling of. How does one get into a folk festival
with
electronic, and a folky entering jazz festivals? where is the
line?". I don't
think there is one anymore. It is fine to be in one style but
perhaps this
should now be called "traditional" and that the gates
should open to new music
and it's natural evolution as well. Dunno really, I could be
out of my league
on this but as you can see somethings going on in this little
head and musical
actions lately.
What's coming up...
New tunes, new sounds, new places, old places,
recording. Well it's been a
busy year. Where does the time go? Small steps... Lots of music
cooking up.
Tonnes of new tunes, and rearrangements of old tunes. New instruments,
old
instruments, tasting new genres and musical styles, mixing and
matching to the
mish mash of the Ronley. Plans for the year, record the next
album, tour as
much as possible, old and new this November in Western Canada,
and New
England. Check the live link for already confirmed performances.
Can't wait
and the journey continues
